Kenneth E. McClellan

Kenneth E. McClellan, 80 of Brazil, In. passed away on Monday January 16th at Union Hospital due to an extended illness. He was born on August 5th 1931 in Clay County In, He was the son of E. Dempsey and Olive (Gray) McClellan. He attended Brazil High School but moved to Phoenix Az. where he graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1950. He was an outstanding athlete and was selected All American in football and had offers from several colleges. In November of 1951 he enlisted in the US Army and served 15 months on the front lines in the Korean War. He was Honorably Discharged in September of 1953. While in the military he received several awards and medals. He married Loretta (Walker)
McClellan in January 1952 and recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. After returning home he attended 2 years at Indiana State University.  After college he worked many years with his father in the painting and decorating business. He was the Director of the Brazil YMCA for several years and one of the original founders of the Clay Youth League, he touched many peoples lives during that time. He oversaw several athletic programs for the city of Brazil and surounding areas. He was the area ASA Commissioner for several years and retired in 2000. Kenny was an active member of the American Legion, Elks, and the VFW where he was a lifetime member. He is proceeded in death by his mother and father, his sister Geneieve McClellan Buck, grandson Zacharie McClellan, and special friend Debbie Perrelle of Terre Haute. He is survived by his wife Loretta and 5 children Tedde McClellan, Brazil, Terre Dickerson (Larry) of Brooklet Ga., Mike, Rob (Sandi), Gary all of Brazil and his fiance May Limbaga, Philippines. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Kenna McClellan, Lori Miller (Bob), Shanna Howard (Chad), Amy Dickerson, Katie Lunsford (Chad), Kraig McClellan (Brittany), Matt, Kaleb, and Geoff McClellan. He is also survived by 16 (soon to be 18) great grandchildren and a very special cousin Logan (Pudge) and Lucille Smith, along with his beloved dogs Georgia and Mo. Visitation will be on Saturday January 21st at the Grace Chapel 2104 W US Highway 40, Brazil   from 11:00am-2:00pm with a Memorial Service following with full military rites from the VFW. There will be cards to write your favorite memories to share with his family. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to the Clay County Humane Society.     We have both known Kenny and the family for many years – before we were married to each other and since. I also had “special moments” with Rob and Sandi while I was allowed time in the care of Zacharie all those years ago.

    I am so sorry for your loss he was such a great man, I loved following him around the Y when he was sweeping or cleaning my Dad was an over the road trucker and I lived next door so I liked following him he always sent me upstairs to throw the ball and I am glad I did I learned to love basketball, and now me and my boys have something in common, Thank you for sharing him with us all of us kids in Brazil, we all loved him greatly, God Bless you all we will keep you all in prayer and remember you will see him again soon he is just visiting with God til we can see him again.
