Katherine Maxine Irwin Tumey

Katherine Maxine Irwin Tumey, 92, of Marshall, Illinois, passed away in her sleep and joined her husband, Ed, on Saturday, January 28, 2012 in Norman Oklahoma while visiting her youngest granddaughter, Kylei.  She was born in Brocton, Illinois on June 28, 1919 to Dayton Irwin and Minnie Bedwell Irwin.  Katherine married Edward “Ed” Gerald Tumey on June 29, 1937 in Pekin, Illinois. Her beloved husband preceded her in death on September 30, 1988.

Together with her husband, Katherine was the co-owner of the E&L Confectionary (Marshall), The Other Place (Marshall), White Barn (Casey), and the Country Kitchen (Casey).  In addition, Katherine also worked for many years at the Visiting Nurses and the AP&S Clinic in Terre Haute, Indiana.  She was a proud member of Republican Women, Eastern Star, and Pythian Sisters involving herself with several community projects.  For the last several years of her life she was retired, enjoying her time as a homemaker with her family.

Katherine is survived by her son, Jerry (Mary Ann) Tumey of Marshall, Illinois, children Kimberley (Hervey) Willis of Indianapolis, Indiana, Kelli (Steve) Grady of Terre Haute,  Edward Gerald “Egie” Tumey of Marshall, and Kylei Tumey of Norman, Oklahoma; son, John (Marie) Tumey of Ottawa, Illinois, children Mike Tumey of Ottawa, and Kathy (Jim) Crow of Crown Point, Indiana; seven great-grand children (Brittany, Taylor, Dillon, Julie, McKayla, Dawson and Connor), one great-great-grandchild (Xavier) and numerous nieces and nephews.  Katherine was a beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Services to celebrate Katherine’s life will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the First Christian Church of Marshall, Illinois at 2:00 p.m., with burial to follow in the Marshall Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Friday, February 3, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Katherine Tumey Memorial Fund during any services at the Church.
